Father’s Day is one of the smaller holidays celebrated by people all over the country, but you wouldn’t know that if you walked
into a store or talked with your friends about the holiday. Most people would talk about the cards or gifts they have to pick up for
their fathers, grandfathers, or even sons who also have children. Sure Father’s Day isn’t as widely celebrated or talked about as
Christmas or Thanksgiving, but did you know that “according to Hallmark, Father's Day is the fourth-largest card-sending occasion
with 72 million cards given every year” (CNN)? In fact, as CNN reports, “fifty percent of all Father's Day cards are purchased for
fathers,” yet “almost 20 percent of Father's Day cards are given to husbands.” Neat facts, right? Here are some other facts you may
not have been aware of:
· Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, is credited with starting Father's Day after hearing a sermon on
Mother's Day.
· 1972 - President Richard Nixon signs into law a permanent recognition of Father's Day.
· The US Census Bureau estimates there were 70.1 million fathers in the United States in 2008.
If you have a father, grandfather, great grandfather, or even uncle that you would like to recognize and appreciate this Sunday for
Father’s Day, celebrate their day with cards, gifts, or by simply going out to do something that they would enjoy.
We here at C&E Financial Services hope everyone has a safe and happy Father’s Day!
